Neighborhood Egg Hunt

Here is a beautiful sunset from our backyard.  The sun lit up the snow-capped mountains.  To the right you can see Mount Timpanogos.  It's really something and the pictures don't quite do it justice.

Each year Cassi Steiner and her circle (including Shanel) puts on a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. It's a lot of fun for children of all ages.... under 12.  Poor Logan just found out that he was now "too old" to be able to participate in the neighborhood hunt.  It was a sad reality of growing up.  He told Jill, "I only get candy three times a year: Christmas, Halloween, and Easter!"  He was disappointed to miss out on one of those times, but soon decided it was fine.

Alyssa had a great hunt and loved searching for eggs.

Landon found a lot of eggs, but I couldn't get a picture of him in the act of searching. Here are his spoils.

The entire hunt lasts only a few minutes, but it's a blast for all of the children.  It's also fun for the adults.  We enjoyed visiting with so many neighbors.

On April 5, just prior to leaving to the Planetarium for a field trip, Logan attended a "Leader Chat" at school.  Each class has a leader of the month, and Logan was selected for his class.  Because Logan is in 6th grade and is a leader in his class he was picked to direct the meeting.  I can't remember if I have mentioned this in another post, but every Wednesday Logan does school announcements on the intercom for the entire school to hear.  He's had a lot of opportunities to be involved at the school this year.

Because he had the leader chat breakfast he was a bit late getting on the bus.  Sadly he wasn't able to sit by his friends and instead sat by a boy who hogged the whole seat.

Jill got to go with him and watched eight children as part of her duty.  They toured the Clark Planetarium and saw two films.  Logan loved the planetarium, but did feel sick in the Dome Theater as the screen was moving around.  He got a bit of motion sickness, and so did Jill!  Afterward, they went to Liberty Park to eat lunch.  Here is Logan with his friends Craigen, Will, and Mason.

The picture doesn't show it, but he was able to wear his NASA shirt to the planetarium.  As school is beginning to wind down, the children will be taking more and more field trips.  It's a fun time of year.

Speaking in Church and General Conference

Sunday March 19th, Logan was asked to speak in church for his very first time.  He spoke about how reading the Book of Mormon increases our faith.  He did a very good job.  He wrote most of his talk on his own, with just a bit of help from Jill.  He did great with his delivery, too.  It was a terrific Sunday for our family because Jill got to be one of the other speakers.  She nailed it, speaking about how reading the words of apostles and prophets increases our faith.  Jill really enjoyed speaking with Logan.  She said that trying to downplay her own nervousness, to show Logan that speaking wasn't so bad, actually helped her!  Both did an excellent job and were complimented by many members of our ward.

We keep getting more and more rain this Spring.  Landon had a football practice in the rain and he came home drenched!

Logan had a scout campout on March 31st, but because of the rain and some other factors, it turned into a "late night" instead of a campout.  I went along to help supervise and the boys had a lot of fun.  They worked on the Oceanography merit badge so we went to the Living Planet Aquarium.  The original plan was to camp up in the Ogden area and go to the aquarium there, but we settled on the Draper aquarium instead.  As we looked at the exhibits, I had to first prompt Logan, but then he finally asked some of the employees the questions he needed for the merit badge.  Some of the employees were really great and gave the boys pretty detailed answers.  One worker looked kind of like Napoleon Dynamite and gave passionate answers to what causes waves and how are they measured.

I didn't take too many pictures, but the boys all had fun. Mylee Yeager came along with her dad, the scout master.  She is a lot of fun and likes to tag along with the Boy Scouts.

The next day was April and General Conference.  Logan is now 12 years old so he got to go to his first Priesthood session of Conference.  He is a really good sport and enjoyed coming.  First, we went to the Bunkall's for dinner and a bit of visiting.  I like the generation picture with Grandpa Mel Bunkall, Grandpa Corwin Bunkall, father, and son.

Then we drove over to the church I attended as a boy and met up with my dad.  Brandon Gren came along too, but since he took the picture he couldn't be in the picture.

After the session we went back to the Bunkall's and had some dessert.  It was a very nice night seeing this son of mine grow up.

Sunday morning we went to Grandma and Grandpa Bryant's where we ate an amazing breakfast and watched the morning session of Conference.

After the morning session we walked over to Arcadia Elementary and played on the playground.  The Jake Bryant family is headed to Spain this next week so we are excited for them. We heard about their itinerary and can't wait to hear them report back on their exciting adventures.

Here is a random picture of Logan's teeth coming in on top of the baby tooth.  Braces may be in his future.
