We love family get togethers! When our get together falls on Super Bowl Sunday, it's really great times. There is an extra level of excitement in the air and everyone is happy. Even those who don't get into the game look forward to it, because it's a fun event that breaks up the winter.
For the last few years we've gathered here at our house. The women like having the kitchen and dining room area for playing games. They can be as loud as they would like without disturbing the men who want to watch TV.
This year we had 1:00 p.m. church, which makes hosting the party a bit tricky. It's so hard to wait around all morning, only to have church and then go straight into party mode. We went to church and then came home to Kandis and Brandon and Mom and Dad already waiting at our house! We couldn't get home until 4:15 p.m., so that was fifteen valuable minutes of pregame that we missed out on.
We were able to gather and have the TV on and even watch the game as we all ate together. Our food has become a tradition. We had our standard Mexican dishes of shredded beef burritos, nachos, and seven layer dip. It was all really really good. Mom brought her candied popcorn and Shanel made her football-shaped Oreos candies. They are amazing!
At half time, the men and boys went downstairs to watch the game, and the women visited for a bit and played some traditional Super Bowl games.
The Patriots played the Falcons and the Falcons went up early and had a commanding lead. In fact no team had ever come back from being down 10 points. The Patriots got down 21-0. It looked bad, but Jake kept predicting, "never doubt Tom Brady." Sure enough they came back and won in exciting fashion, 34-28, in a thrilling overtime. It was all so exciting to watch!
The women like to play a game I played as a child called Horse Trader. It's a puzzle game where you trade pieces to make your puzzle. It's really fun, but not as fun as watching the Super Bowl.
It was a really fun night with the Bryant family.
