General Conference and Staying Socially Distant

April 4th and 5th was the first ever virtual General Conference. President Nelson had announced earlier that this conference would be memorable and unforgettable, since we were celebrating 200 years since the First Vision.  Because of the pandemic, it did become a conference to remember for many reasons.  We always look forward to General Conference and its traditions, but this year was quite different.  We watched Conference from home and didn't even get together with family.  Jill made breakfast, but it wasn't the same as gathering with family.  We watched each session at home together, even on Saturday night.  What would have been the priesthood session turned into a session for all ages and we continued to watch digitally. We missed being with family, but really enjoyed the messages of peace and hope.

The world has basically stopped turning and we spend a lot of time together as a family.  No matter how/when this pandemic ends, we will look back on quality time spent with family.  It's been nice to have the children home every night.  Instead of them scattering after dinner to activities or friends' houses, we watch movies and shows together.  One show we've enjoyed watching is "Saved By the Bell."  We've had a lot of fun watching that together.  Before the pandemic our children were always wanting to go out with friends and didn't seem to want to be home much, especially all together.  They've been forced to spend more time together and have been getting along better!  One night, we spent some time out front waving to neighbors as they walked by.  It seems that more neighbors than ever are out walking about.  There isn't anything else for anyone to do, so walking is the only time to get out.

Our children really love Taco Bell.  Going through the drive thru is one way we can help try and support businesses.  The Governor even encouraged everyone to go out to eat 2-3 times a week (picking up food from the drive thru).

Spring Break was the first week of April.  We had planned a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, but it was cancelled when the borders were closed.  We had been looking forward to the trip for months, so we were all pretty disappointed.  Jill tried to plan a few things during the week to make up for the missed trip.  One day, Jill let the children buy some snacks at Smith and Edwards (the kids are huge fans of the root beer and lemon barrels).

Another day they took a walk at the park.  Jill and I planned a neighborhood scavenger hunt for the kids on another day, which turned out to be a lot of fun.  They hopped on their bikes and searched the neighborhood for all of the clues.

Grandma and Grandpa Bunkall invited the kids over for lunch and an Easter egg hunt.  They had a lot of fun spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and cousins.  Face masks are becoming more popular and grandma made some nice masks for our family.

She made masks for our whole family.
